Retail Sales Volume Index, August 2015

Retail sales volume down 1.1 percent compared to the previous month

Seasonally and calendar adjusted retail sales volume decreased by 1.1% in August 2015 compared to the previous month. In the same month; food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 0.5%, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) decreased by 2.2% and automotive fuel sales decreased by 0.5%.

When the change in non-food sectors compared to the previous month is examined; sales of computers, books and communication devices decreased by 5.0%, electrical goods and furniture sales decreased by 0.4%, textiles, clothing and footwear sales decreased by 0.5%, medical products and cosmetics sales decreased by 3.7%, mail or internet sales increased by 0.6%.

Retail sales volume increased by 3.6% compared to the same month of the previous year

Calendar adjusted retail sales volume increased by 3.6% in August 2015 compared to the same month of the previous year. In the same month; food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 4.1%, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) decreased by 1.6%, automotive fuel sales increased by 12.0%.

When the change in non-food sectors compared to the same month of the previous year is examined; sales of computers, books and communication devices decreased by 2.4%, electrical goods and furniture sales decreased by 3.3%, textile, clothing and footwear sales decreased by 0.1%, medical products and cosmetics sales decreased by 1.1%, mail or internet sales increased by 13.9%.

Retail turnover decreased by 0.7% compared to the previous month

Seasonally and calendar adjusted retail turnover at current prices decreased by 0.7% in August 2015 compared to the previous month. In the same month; while food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 1.1%, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) decreased by 1.6% and automotive fuel sales decreased by 1.2%.

Retail turnover increased by 4.9% compared to the same month of the previous year

Retail turnover at current prices adjusted for calendar effects increased by 4.9% in August 2015 compared to the same month of the previous year. In the same month; food, beverage and tobacco sales increased by 12.0%, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) increased by 5.1%, while automotive fuel sales decreased by 2.4%.

DESCRIPTIONS

The calendar effect was not observed in the “automotive fuel” indices. Therefore, “unadjusted” series are used instead of “calendar adjusted” series.
