Consumer Confidence Index, January 2016

Consumer confidence index decreased by 2.7%

Turkey Statistical Institute and the consumer confidence index calculated from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey consumer tendency survey results carried out with cooperation, decreased by 2.7% compared to the previous month in January; The index, which was 73.58 in December, became 71.62 in January.


Expectations of households decreased by 1.1%

The financial situation expectation index of the household decreased by 1.1% compared to the previous month. The index value which was 93.19 in December was 92.17 in January. This decline stemmed from the decrease in the ratio of those who expect that the financial situation of the household will be better in the next 12 months.

General economic situation expectation decreased by 4.3%

The general economic situation expectation index, which was 99.91 in December, decreased by 4.3% to 95.65 in January. This decrease indicates that the number of consumers expecting the general economic situation to be better in the next 12 months decreased compared to the previous month.

Number of unemployed expectation decreased by 6.2%

The number of unemployed expectation index decreased by 6.2% compared to the previous month and decreased to 73.57 in January. This decline stemmed from the decrease in the number of people expecting a decrease in the number of unemployed persons in the next 12 months.

Probability of saving increased by 10.1%

The probability of saving index increased by 10.1%. The index, which was 22.79 in December, rose to 25.09 in January. This increase shows that consumers are more likely to save in the next 12 months compared to the previous month.

With the monthly consumer tendency survey, the current period assessments of the personal financial situation of the consumers and the general economy are measured with the expectations of the future period and the tendencies regarding the expenditures and savings planned in the near future are determined.

The consumer confidence index calculated from the survey results can take value in the range 0-200. The consumer confidence index is higher than 100, which indicates that the consumer confidence is optimistic.
