The date of 19 May 1919 was initiated against the imperialist forces and it was the date in which Atatürk showed his will to live with the honor of the Turkish Nation in his identity. It is the day in which the torch of independence and freedom is lit, the seed of the foundation of our State and Republican regime, which is modern, democratic, secular, which is worthy of the rule of law and human rights, and the Turkish Nation defeated the misfortune under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. May 19, which symbolizes the beginning of the war of liberation, is therefore celebrated as a holiday.
